The man doth protest too much! This is a great piece and I'm psyched to sit down and revisit it, particularly knowing that there's something new waiting at the end. Evangeline is a force to be reckoned with, both as character and narrative voice. I want to *be* her when I grow up.
Love the imagery, "like toddlers in a cathedral" and the way superstition curls through the narrative. The character development in just one short episode is impressive.
thanks very much for reading and commenting! i'm realizing that i never included the links to the rest of the story in that first post... were you able to find Parts 2-7?
ah, yes, of course—let me just pull out the old Selectric and type you up an outline with Roman numerals for each paragraph, and index cards with MPA-styled citations for all my research sources. the manilla envelope will be a bit creased from being stuffed into the pneumatic tube, but it'll be on your desk post-haste.
*or* i could stay on-brand, get absolutely torqued on coffee and "vitamins" the day before it's due, and crank out some solid B+ work right before the deadline.
and i make my own mustache wax. from the tallow of my enemies. there will be no shortage.
