As I’ve described in years past—even though I drive a keyboard and not a tractor, I make an effort to lean into the agricultural rhythms of the season, and try (try) to wrap up my creative work around this time.
I need this time to catch up on the mundane stuff I’ve let slide while writing: house projects; spending time with friends and family; sleeping at night.
There always seems to be some writing that won’t let me go. I probably won’t go completely silent here. Still, if I manage to restrain myself, posting will be sporadic until January. (For the sake of my health, feel free to yell at me in the comments if you catch me getting wild.)
Some updates for the year ahead:
The nonfiction book project I’ve been threatening to write is finally taking shape. I’ll be using a mythic perspective to look at the cultural phenomenon of the Undead in contemporary society. I’ve created a new post section for material related to that project: Bringing Out the Dead.
That project will be the main focus of my writing in 2025. Much of that will be published as Subscriber Only content, including excerpts and interviews. Billing will be suspended while I’m on leave, so nobody will get charged; you can update your subscription now and get all the good stuff as soon as I’m back to work.
The main Phasmatopia newsletter will be mostly devoted to shorter, more personal posts, related to work I’m doing in my local area. I’ll reserve the heavy theoretical work for Bringing Out the Dead.
I’ll continue adding to An Idiot’s Grimoire, if and when the inspiration strikes. As you can see from the “short” posts I’ve already published there—I have a bad habit of diving down rabbit holes once I get thinking about something. Again, I’ll be trying to conserve my energy for the big project; anything related to the general field of applied metaphysics will end up there.
Keep an eye out for the first (free) post in Bringing Out the Dead, coming in the next week or two.
As always, a very big thank you to everyone who supported my writing this season. I’m looking forward to getting a rest, and excited about the coming year. Stay tuned.
